MISSION AND APPROACH

On Cue: Rehearsal for Real Life strives to teach life skills to under-resourced students through participation in the performing arts. Our program encompasses dance, music, and drama instruction, with curriculum specifically designed to teach students about independent thinking, public speaking, creative problem solving, and more.

All junior high students in our partner schools participate in tri-weekly classes during the school day. Each student is assigned a role such as actor, designer, or business manager as the students work together to form a theater company with the goal of performing a one-act musical at the end of the thirteen week session.

We strongly believe that engagement with the performing arts prepares our students for a future in whatever field they choose to pursue.

Annual Reports

In-School Program

Students in the On Cue program receive a comprehensive performing arts education throughout the year, culminating in a 60-minute musical production. Every student in our partner schools is involved in the production, making the performance an exciting event for the whole school community. In addition to rehearsal time, all students in our partner schools participate in academic lessons led by an On Cue teacher. Lessons are based on the themes of the chosen musical, allowing our young actors to better develop their characters and increase their understanding of the script.

Summer Program

During the summer, On Cue offers a week long summer intensive at the St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago, NE. Students have the opportunity to receive dance, music, and drama instruction as they prepare for the performance of a 30 minute musical. The week also includes curriculum designed to enhance life skills and personal development for our campers.
